Top 10 "bad" avengers.

Ok so before we get started, a quick clarification about what I mean as "bad' avengers...I dont mean Avengers who were or are villains (although some of them do make this list) I mean the avengers who have done more harm then good over their stint on the team, to the point that arguably (less arguably as we get closer to the top) the Avengers would have been much better off if these 10 members had NEVER joined the team in the first place.

So with that definition in mind, we start the list with a long time fan favorite:

#10 The Vision

Normally the Vision is considered one of the most popular, powerful and long standing members of the team. But then there was the time he was team leader......and tried to take over the world by taking over all the worlds electronic systems. Granted he was stopped and he got disassembled for that and turned into a colorless robot with no personality, and it would take him over a decade to regain both his colors and his personality, so I suppose he did his time.

But then there were also the time he helped rebuilt perennial avengers foe Ultron...and he rebuilt him out of indestructible adamantum, making him significantly more powerful....admittedly he was under Ultrons control at the time (as Ultron created him and left secret programming in his system) but still, given that he cant ever seem to find all these programs in himself....he's still potential future risk.

Then the time durring Avengers Dissembled where he created 5 Ultrons at once after trying to kill the avengers....but that actually due to the Scarlet Witches powers going crazy....so I guess not his fault?

Honestly its only due to the mind control excuse...and the fact his takeover had no long term effects on the world on the Avengers writ large than he ranks so low on this list.

#9 Dr Druid

So its slightly scary that Druid is near the bottom of this list, considering his stint in the avengers.
He joins the team after helping them take back their mansion from the Masters of Evil and immediately decides that he should be running the show. He actually openly dreams of a coupe, taking control of the team from the Wasp and later Captain Marvel.  Which he eventually does after using mind control to ensure the vote he wants. At which point his basically leads to the team being destroyed and disbanded, for the first time ever, when he basically hands to team over to a super villain he's in love with.

Now admittedly the villian was controlling him with her mind control...but only after he became team leader. So the rest of that plotting and rigging the vote with HIS mind control powers? thats on him.

And oh yea, he later turned up after his death as a member of the Legion of the Unliving, attacking and attempting to replace the Avengers....but again, mind control

And this wasnt his last appearance either, he joined the Dead Avengers during another resurrection and was still a massive dick to everyone around him...in fact he even refused to fight, believing that it wasnt really his job anymore....even though he was all that stood between the universe getting wiped out. He finally changed his tune once he found his murderer as one of the people opposing him...although he attacked her, he refused to do anything else, until the final seconds of the battle, at which point he finally did something heroic when he gave up his "life" to save the lives of the still living avengers.

Took long enough.

#8 Quicksilver

The original Lone Wolf of the avengers, Quicksilver has been ostracized from the group repeatedly throughout the years, mostly due to the fact he doesnt work well with others.

He first joined the team seeking redemption for his part in Magneto's Brotherhood of Evil mutants...who hed only joined out of a sense of debt to Magneto for saving his life and his sisters, the Scarlet Witch. Later during time on the injured list he met and married an inhuman named crystal....who eventually cheated on him. This led to the end of their marriage, and when she herself became an Avengers and attempted a relationship with teammate Black Knight, Quicksilver was brought into direct conflict with the team...his relationship already strained by his inability to accept his sisters marriage to the Vision. During this conflict he actual managed to frame the avengers for treason....getting their government clearance revoked.

Later after his sister wiped out all most all mutants on earth, Quicksilver tried to forcefully restart his race with help of the Inhuman Terrigen Crystals....which usually lead to death or serve handicaps for those unlucky enough to receive his "help".

He would later falsely claim he had been replaced by a Skrull during this period in a successful attempt to win his way back into the Avengers good graces. And big lie not withstanding his service on the team since them has been pretty exemplary, even serving as a teacher to the next generation of super humans in the Avengers Academy.

However, if history is any indication, its only a matter of time until his big lie catches up to him and he is held accountable for his previous actions once again.

#7 Hank Pym

So arguably Pym no matter what superhero name he uses.....Ant Man, Giant Man, Goliath, Yellowjacket, Dr. Pym, or Wasp, is one of the central and more important Avengers. Hell he helped found the team, and has on multiple occasions lead the team....usually when they are at their weakest, he steps in and keeps it going.

So why is he on this list? Well there was the one time he suffered a mental breakdown, went crazy and posed as his own murderer and kidnapped his girlfriend, then the time he had another mental breakdown and hit his wife....and had to be kicked off the team. But as bad as that those are, he is really here for one reason. Ultron.

Ulton the evil and indestructible robot who has massacred countries full of people, is Hank Pym's creation. More than that, in his actually Hank Pym. Pym needed a brain pattern to model Ultrons on (back when he was creating him to be a regular servant robot) so he used the only one he had available....his own. So Ultron does everything Pym would do if Pym didnt have the major confidence issue that keeps causing his mental breakdowns and his constant need to change names (trying to create a new identity to create fake confidence)

And actually, as it stands now, Pym has literally become Ultron, as the last time anyone saw either of them, they had merged together in Ultrons adamantum body....and well the evil side was clearly calling the shots......Turns out a single genocidal robot will do quite a bit to erase the good work you also do...who knew?

Although its worth noting, he's actually created 2 genocidal robots as he created an AI named Dimitrios to take down Ultron....only for Dimitrios to go rogue and try his hand at genocide....although no where near as successfully as ultron.

Some people never learn.....

#6 Moondragon

You know, something about the Avengers and mind control powers doesnt ever seem to work to well. In Moondragons case, she has on multiple occasions used her powers on her teammates, either encouraging people to stay or to leave the team, based on what she believes would be best for the avengers.

Which is ironic, because when the Avengers fought one of their most dangerous threats, Korvac, a man who stole the power of Galactus and was using it to reshape the galaxy...and managed to kill the entire roster of the Avengers.....Moondragon sat there and did nothing to help.....because she thought maybe Korvac was right and the whole universe deserved death.

Oh and then after that, she mind controlled an entire planet to stop a war. When the Avengers confronted her about it, specifically about how she was depriving people of free will, she mind controlled them too....and used her powers to rape Thor.

I think, to this day, she holds the distinction of being the only avenger who actually raped another member. I dont think it gets much worse than that for teamwork.....then again, we are only about midway down this list.

#5 Hulk

So up until the last decade, Hulk spent more time as an enemy of the team, then a member. While he did help found the team, he quit almost immediately....and not too long after teamed up with Namor the Sub Mariner on a crime streak that brought him into conflict with the avengers, not surprisingly they lost. Hulk would actually attempt revenge a few times before leaving the team alone for the next few decades. At least until World War Hulk, when he attempted to destroy the world. But actually in his defense, that was actually kinda the avengers fault....he really was the victim of that one. Then Fear Itself drove him insane and mad him even more powerful, but the other Avengers were able to take him down. Granted a lot of heroes had the same fate happen to them, so does get a bit of a pass here.

In the aftermath he actually rejoined the team in time to serve with distinction in war against the X-men, and eventually wound up on the secret Illuminati section of the team, trying to stop the universe from destruction...an attempt marvel has already let be known will fail...and in part because of shitty way the Illuminati went about dealing with the whole mess (hiding it and themselves from the rest of the team)

#4 Scarlet Witch

I almost feel bad putting wanda on this list, because basically shes been a superb avenger, except for 1 time Problem is that 1 time led to a mental breakdown that caused the deaths of 4 Avengers, Jack of Hearts, the second Ant-Man, her own ex husband the Vision, and Hawkeye, and because of that the disbanding of the entire team.....oh and the restructuring of reality as we know it to once where mutants ruled the world....including for some reason the resurrection and re-murdering of Hawkeye (she really doesn't like that guy) and finally upon the restoration of the normal reality, the genocide of almost every mutant on the planet.

And you thought you were having a bad week......

Side note by the way, her Brother, quicksilver and her ex husband, Vision, and her ex "grandfather/father in law" Hank Pym have all also made this list.....so maybe in the future the Avengers should just avoid this whole family. (even if her two sons are considered "Young Avengers")

#3 Namor

So remember when I said Hulk used to attack the Avengers with his partner Namor? Yea well apparently the Avengers let Namor on the team anyways. A move that even in-universe was controversial as Namor was basically considered an Atlantian terrorist based on his previous actions
But when Captain America says your in and he vouches for you (because you fought the nazis in WWII)....well your in. Even if, as was the case with Namor you dont do much, given that your power-set is redundant when your teammates include Hercules and She Hulk.

Then there was the time when he stood with the X-men against the Avengers....and as a result got empowered by the Dark Phoenix and basically Wakanda, the homeland of Avenger teammate Black Panther off the map...just because.

He would later rejoin the secret Illuminati sect of the Avengers....and make a deal with Thanos to fuck over that same group, if Thanos would wipe out Wakanda....again (His justification for this was that Wakanda had attacked him after he wiped them out the first time....apparently he didnt think they would hold a grudge). Believe it or not, he wasnt kicked off the team for that.....but he was kicked off the team later....after he destroyed an alternative version of Earth.

Well its nice to see there are some standards on how much genocide you can do before you're off the team.

#2 Sentry

So on the upside, if your recruiting avengers Sentry is the most powerful superhero in the world bar none. On the downside he's crazy. As in periodically is taken over by a split personality called "the Void" who has enough power to end the universe.

This likely should have been a warning clue you dont want him on the team.

The avengers had him join the team when they ran across him during a jailbreak from supervillian prison....he was one of the inmates. Again why let him on the team? He actually spend long chucks of his stint on the team basically inactive and in self exile....any attempt to be a superhero might lead the emergance of the void, so he didnt really want to fight crime. Again why put him on the team? this doesnt sound like it can end will.

Later on, during the events of the Dark Reign, Sentry leaves his team and joins Norman Osborne (aka the Green Goblins) team of Avengers....made up of unrepentant villains. He later joined Osborne in his attempt to conquer Asgard....during the events of which he would kill fomer teammate and Roman God Ares......only to be killed minutes later by Thor.

He was evenually returned to life as one of the 4 Horsemen of Apocalypse, specifically Death. And as Death he once again battled his former teammates. Although he did actually wind up helping the Avengers in this guise....its only because he wants to glory of killing them himself when he next returns.

All of this combines to basically make Sentry the one entry on this list for whom there are no redeeming features of his membership on the team.

#1 Iron Man

Now I know what your thinking? Wait Iron Man? didnt he found the team? didnt he finance the team? dont the avengers operate out of his house? isnt he considered one of the Avengers big 3?

And the answer to all of those is yes. Yet still the Avengers might be better off without him.

First there was the Kree/Skrull wars. in which he led a faction of the team in committing regicide against the Kree Leader, the supreme intelligence....which led to Captain America quitting the team

Next was the "Armor wars" in which Iron Man flew around randomly beating the hell out of ANYONE hero or villian who was wearing any kind of armored suit (included killing one of his victims)....cause you know, thats his thing.

This led to him being branded a fugitive, with the avengers being tasked to bring him in....an episode that ended with him faking his own death to avoid capture and incarceration.

Even later, he resurfaced...only to go crazy, and kill the avengers nanny, and the second Yellowjacket. Years after that, he helped initiate the superhero civil war, included creating Ragnarok, who killed the second Goliath, oh and of course the civil war ended with Captain America's death.....

Stark for his part was put in charge of world security....a job he bungled so badly Hydra was able to destroy SHIELD, and Stark was replaced by the Green Goblin and H.A.M.M.E.R. and for a year, the villains were in charge and the heroes were all arrested as criminals.

Then there was his stint as the "Superior Iron Man" in which he again turned evil and battled a shit ton of heroes....

Oh and you might notice that in both Hulk and Namor's entry I mention this group called the Illuminati? Iron man set that up.

You might have also noticed that I've said the Illuminati fail to save the universe and the entire universe will be destroyed in part because the Illuminati didnt tell the other heroes and tried to keep it a secret?

Well it turns out, Iron Man had a secret....he'd known this was coming for YEARS, and how to stop it....and hadnt said anything about it to anyone, and had only told the other illuminati about the threat when they figured it out on their own anyways, and had never mentioned a potential saving idea.....because the destruction of the universe to create a new one was what he had wanted all along.

Yea.....pretty sure thats about the most evil thing ever.....so yea.....
