The most likely 2017 Royal Rumble surprise entrants

It's almost time for the 2017 WWE Royal Rumble, the yearly 30 man fight to see who gets the challenge for a world title at wrestlemania. And as I mentioned last year when I did one of these, its also one of my favorite WWE events....partely due to the unpredictability of a match with 30 people. But as any one whose seen a rumble knows, half the fun of the match is trying to figure out whose going to be joining the match every 90 seconds, and WWE usually likes to have a few surprises waiting in the wings as well....so here it is, my 5 picks for the most likely surprise entrants of 2017.

5) D-Von Dudley:

A couple years back, Bubba made a surprise return at the Royal Rumble to a huge pop...and most shockingly of all, it was his Rumble match debut.  Like Bubba, D-von has never managed to compete in a rumble either....and unlike Bubba, D-von is still under WWE contract (working as a trainer in NXT). So a one night return for a quick pop and surprise would seem to be a pretty easy thing to pull off.

4) HHH:

Because of course he is. This isnt even going to be a true surprise. He's going to enter the rumble, eliminate Seth Rollins, then be eliminated by Rollins as WWE tries to breath new life into a 5 month old, basically dead angle where for still unknown reasons HHH screwed Rollins out of the Universal title.  Maybe now we will finally get an answer....assuming anyone still care.

And of course, it will be an exact rehash of the surprise last year, when he showed up unexpected and screwed over Roman Reigns in the Rumble match....

3) Finn Balor:

The first ever Universal champion, and lost the title due to injury, an injury that was supposed to take about 5-6 months to heal.....meaning he should be healed up right about the time the rumble match begins.  It makes perfect sense for him to enter the match to get a shot at the title he never lost.

In fact, he might be a little bitter about that whole injury and then basically being forgotten thing...and Raw is about to need a new top heel, as signs are pointing to Reigns taking the title off Owens and Owens feuding with Jericho over the US title

So a bitter heel balor might be exactly what the doc ordered. And if it happens, he might have a decent shot at winning the damn thing....especially if he can find a couple other guys who might look familiar in this shirt:

I wonder if that shirt is an "Omen in the Sky" for Balor's "Good Brothers"?

2) Kevin Owens:

How does Kevin Owens count as a surprise? well at the moment, hes the universal champion....but I dont expect he will be by the time the Rumble match itself starts. So he could, and likely will surprise everyone by entering the match  to try to get his title back.

And if he enter's I fully expect him to either eliminate or be eliminated by Chris Jericho, kicking off their expected program.

1) Kurt Angle:

Kurt Angle hadnt been seen, heard or mentioned on WWE programming in more than 10 years until he was suddenly announced as the headliner of this years hall of fame class.

But heres the thing, unlike many other legends, Kurt's still in wrestling shape, and he was fired from WWE at the peak of his popularity.  Meaning he is still over as hell and can likely still wrestle.

Furthermore WWE keeps calling this the most star studded rumble in history....and what better way to prove that slogan by bringing back the only Olympic gold medalist in WWE history for the first time in a decade?

Furthermore, given the pop for angle will likely be deafing and WWE wants to milk the moment, why not really start the Rumble match with a bang and make Kurt Angle the #2 entrant? You want to talk about one of the biggest "surprises" in WWE history? that would be hard to top

Of course, Kurt Angle's going to need someone to wrestle for those first 90 seconds.....I wonder which of Angle's classic rivals might still be around to wrestle him, and someone whos status wouldnt be over shadowed by angle, and someone the fans might love to see be the #1 entry, and could still convincingly win from the #1 spot?

If only someone fit all those criteria.....
